Our group decided to write about a topic that we were all fond of. Our first idea was to write about the littering in our countries such as Puerto Rico, Mexico, or Ecuador. We wanted to talk about the damage that littering has caused to our countries. We decided to stay closer to home considering that there was more research done on the management of waste in New York City. These decisions were all made during class in person. In my opinion, if the class was in person our group would have been much better because our communication would have been better. This was my first time doing a research paper with more than two peers. Prior to this class, I only did a research paper with one other classmate. I was a bit nervous to work in such a big group because everyone had different schedules. For our first task, we all agreed to find sources and new ideas to add to our paper. We also agreed to do one section each to minimize the work. However, writing our draft was a bit difficult because, again, our communication was off considering that my peers worked and other personal issues. However, working on this paper made me feel like a real scientist. Working with others to come up with new ideas and coming together to do research on one topic was very educational. I appreciated working with other peers because it helped my compositional vocation since they gave me the opportunity to learn new vocabularies, and new strategies in writing that I didn’t know before. I had the chance to agree and disagree with my peers, helping me actively learn about the topic we were writing about. I’ve gained a lot of new information about the waste that is disposed of in New York City alone. The most helpful part of this paper was being able to divide the work in order to provide all of our time and effort to a specific part of the paper. The work for each peer was divided based on personal availability, as well as the strengths and weaknesses of each student. There are different personal areas that I wish to improve in order to improve as a college student and for the length of my career. I wish to improve my leadership skills because I’m very quiet when it comes to talk about my personal opinions or ideas. Although the group appointed me as the leader I rarely added my opinions. For the future I don’t believe I will continue my research with the environment and the ecosystem. However, I will use these new skills to better my writing and hopefully will make researcher papers easier. I hope to use these skills in the future with my career considering that I will have to work with other people. I’ve learned that when a group communicates constantly and works cohesively, the workload becomes lighter. In the future I will make sure to share more of my opinions and use the skills our professor taught us to write in different classes or jobs.
